What you need to know this week to stay on top of college admissions.

The SAT and ACT are coming up in the next two weeks.

The SAT is on the 3rd and the ACT is on the 10th. It’s too late to register for both, but if you’re planning to take either test, think about some tips for the day before test day.

Here’s a hint for the day before:

Don’t prep!

Feeling well-rested outweighs incremental improvement from a last-minute cram session. We sometimes recommend that students hang out with friends, catch a movie, and get to bed early on the Friday night before test day.

Gearing up for admissions season in the fall? Here’s what you need to do first:

Finalize a college list.

This isn’t easy to come up with, and there are lots of ways to discover potentially perfect college fits. I asked some members of Team Testive how they first learned of the college they’d ultimately attend. Here’s what they said:

“My close friend was targeting a school I had never heard of. I looked it up and got hooked.”

“I used a paid advisor to do a search. It was a horrible fit. I transferred after a year. The new school was a much better fit. It was in the south, which is an area I originally had a prejudice against. Should have had a more open mind from the beginning.”

“This is totally boring...I got something in the mail”

“My high school guidance counselor suggested it because it had a good communications program and it was a big school. (My high school was really small and I was ready for something more).”
