What you need to know this week to stay on top of college admissions.

The next SAT and ACT test dates:

The next SAT and ACT are in June. You still have time to register late for both tests.

After the test dates in June, neither the SAT nor the ACT are administered until late in the summer. I'll get to those timelines shortly. But here's the thing: if your child plans to take the SAT or ACT after June, he or she should start prepping now because the next three months are valuable time to get ready for some important test dates.

Chat with us about making a prep plan for the fall.

Who should take the SAT or ACT in June?

The June tests are great options for students who have taken a test recently and want to carry their momentum into another try. They also make sense for Rising Seniors as a first test date, with the expectation of landing on a final score in the fall.

Students who haven’t taken any tests can also look ahead to the summer and target the fall test dates outlined below.

If you're taking the SAT this fall:

Early Action and Early Decision applicants have one last chance to take the SAT. That’s either August or October, but not both.

Regular Decision applicants have two more chances to take the SAT. Here are the three combinations of dates that work:

  • August & November
  • August & December
  • October & December

Fall SAT test dates:

August 26th

  • Possible last chance for EA/ED applicants
  • Possible second-to-last chance for RD applicants

October 7th

  • Possible last chance for EA/ED applicants
  • Possible second-to-last chance for RD applicants

November 4th

  • Possible last chance for most RD applicants

December 2nd

  • Last chance for most RD applicants

If you're taking the ACT this fall:

Early Action and Early Decision applicants have one last chance to take the ACT in September.

Regular Decision applicants have two more chances to take the ACT. You can take the September 9th ACT and the December 9th ACT.

You probably shouldn’t take the October 28th ACT. Here’s why:

October ACT scores almost certainly won’t be released in time to submit scores to colleges for Early Action and Early Decision applications. If you’re applying Regular Decision, it’s difficult to take both the October ACT and the December ACT. While you might only need one last try in the fall, electing the September date over the October date keeps the door open for one last chance in December, just in case.

Fall ACT test dates:

September 9th

  • Last chance for EA/ED applicants
  • Second-to-last chance for RD applicants

October 28th

  • Possible last chance for RD applicants

December 9th

  • Last chance for most RD applicants
